One of the most versatile materials used in the construction industry, epoxy resin is a polymer used as an adhesive and for coating. Epoxy is widely used because of the special properties that make it durable, handy, and multitasker. Therefore, epoxies are highly recommended and used for industrial applications.

Properties of Epoxy Resin

● Provides strong adhesion therefore used in construction application.

● It is highly chemical resistant.

● Its heat resistance power does not allow it to melt at high temperatures.

● The water-resistant property makes it ideal for underwater construction.

● Provides extra strength.

● It is capable of bonding with different surface materials.

● Minimum shrinkage is possible.

Uses of Epoxy Resin

● It is used in manufacturing laminated woods.

● Creates high-gloss coating.

● It is used in developing composite.

● Another material such as quartz and tile is combined with epoxy to provide high performance and decorative flooring.

Applications of Epoxy Resin

  1. Epoxy Adhesive: Due to its heat resistant property, epoxy adhesives are highly popular in the construction industry for gluing two different materials. It is compatible with various materials such as wood, plastic, metal, and stone.

2. Epoxy coatings and sealant: As the epoxies are highly chemically resistant and durable, they are commonly used as protective coating and sealant. When sprayed on surfaces such as concrete or wood, they enable resistance from oil and other chemicals.

3. Epoxy floors: The epoxy floor is a thick layer, of at least two millimetres, of epoxy which contributes to the strong and glossy surface. It is available in different colors. Epoxy floors are highly popular in commercial construction because of their durability.

4. Epoxy paint or acrylic sealants: With a small amount of epoxy, epoxy paint or acrylic sealants are acrylic paints that provide durability to the surface more than the standard acrylic paint. Epoxy paint dries faster and has corrosion and chemical resistant properties.

5. Epoxy grout: Epoxy grout offers stain-free and crack-free tile surfaces. It is non-toxic and dirt-resistant. The shine is intact for a longer period of time. It does not crumble and is easy to maintain.

6. Epoxy tabletop: To give an extremely deluxe look to your interior, epoxy resin can be applied on the tabletops. It is also used to restore worn-out tabletops and countertops. Epoxy tables give a glossy look to your ordinary table and are easy to maintain.

7. Epoxy waterproofing: Due to its water-resistant property, epoxy resin provides a chemical-free finish to the pool floors, bathroom floors, bathtubs, etc., and is a good waterproofing material.

8. Outdoor coatings and sealants: Extra shiny outdoor coatings for concrete floors is another major application of epoxy resin. It helps to provide durability and works as a sealer in industrial settings.

Conclusion

Epoxy resin proves to be an amazing material for construction and repair projects because of its durability and high adhesion. Its salient features such as heat, chemical, and water resistance, enhances its charm as an ideal adhesive and coating. Its versatility is popular in powerful construction work such as boat building, furniture construction, etc., as well as in delicate indoor works such as table top and countertop coating.
